Partners In Action

Running a non-profit is not easy.  Budgets are always tight and finding funding is a battle not for the weak at heart.  With the abundance of good causes, the Little Fish Theatre (LFT) decided to show its support to its non-profit neighbors with its 'Partners in Action' program. LFT will honor one of 5 local charities with the proceeds from an added performance for each of its 2007 productions.

Organizer, Suzanne Dean, says "There are so many non-profits in San Pedro, we're one of them.  We’re all asking for the same thing - money to continue and develop programs. But we decided we could take a moment to stop asking for help, and offer some."

Producing Artistic Director, Lisa Coffi agreed, "LFT has been fortunate to receive funding this year that helps to underwrite our performance space on Centre Street. Producing a show is expensive, but once a production is running, we have the capability to add on a performance at a nominal increase in cost."

LFT has added benefit performances in the past- sending one of their shows to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in 2005 and helping with an Honorary Mayor fundraiser a few years back. "So, why not do the same thing for some of our non-profit neighbors?" proposed Suzanne. "At LFT, we provide year-round entertainment, which has its own value to the community. These organizations also provide much needed services to the people of San Pedro- each with a different focus."

LFT has chosen 5 areas where they’d like to help make a difference: addiction, domestic abuse, animals, homeless, and the arts.  A non-profit from each of the areas will have performances dedicated to them in 2007.

LFT enjoys partnering with other Arts groups as well. The theatre group, Panndora Productions, has been performing at LFT since 2004 and is co-producing 2 of this season's shows. "Panndora Productions was happy to come on board when they learned of our PIA plan," added Mark Piatelli, Associate Artistic Director. "Our first co-production will benefit Beacon House on March 8."

Suzanne again, "We have been given the opportunity to create in this terrific community and we feel a responsibility to play our part.  As Ibsen said, A community is like a ship; everyone ought to be prepared to take the helm."
